Butterflies

Welcome to Butterfly Class – our Semi-Formal class for children aged 6 to 7 years. We are a busy, active learning environment where every child is supported to grow in confidence, independence and understanding.

We are looking forward to another busy and exciting year in Butterfly Class! Our days are filled with opportunities to learn, explore, communicate, play and become more independent.

What are we learning?

This year we will be exploring exciting topics including:

Land, Sea and Sky – discovering the world around us, from the ground beneath our feet to the sky above us.

Twinkly Lights and Starry Nights – exploring light and dark, stars, nighttime and all things twinkly.

People Who Care About Us and Help Us – learning about the important people in our lives and the different ways they help us.

Roots, Shoots and Fruits – getting hands-on with plants, growing fruit and vegetables.

Animals and Minibeasts – finding out about the amazing creatures around us and exploring where they live and how they move.

Our topics give us lots of opportunities to learn through stories, songs, sensory activities, crafts, cooking, exploration and practical play.

Our Class Goals

Throughout the year we will be working on:

• Building attention and engagement

• Developing communication, including making requests and sharing what we see

• Learning to play and interact with others

• Developing early reading and phonological awareness

• Exploring early maths and counting

• Following classroom routines with increasing independence

• Developing self-help and problem-solving skills

• Becoming more confident with rules and expectations

We love getting out and about too! Swimming, crafts and Forest School are some of our favourite activities, and we make the most of the opportunities to learn through real experiences.

Reading at Home

Every week, children can choose a book to take home to enjoy with their families. We want books and stories to be a fun part of life both in and out of school.

Children who use Bug Club can also access books, games and activities at home using their individual login.

We can't wait to see what the children discover, learn and achieve in Butterfly Class this year!
