Kingfishers

Welcome to Kingfishers Class – our Semi-Formal class for children aged 6 to 8 years. We are a group of happy and enthusiastic children who love to have fun, play together and learn through song, repetition and practical activities.

Our Team

Class Teacher: Emma

Support Staff: Jo, Kayleigh, Wendy and Olivia

We work together as a team to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need throughout the school day.

Our focus for this year is recognising emotions and developing self-regulation techniques, developing play skills such as sharing, developing our concentration to focus on a task up to 5 minutes and basic reading, writing and numeracy such as recognising the alphabet, writing our names and recognising and ordering numbers to 10.

Our favourite activities are attention autism/bucket therapy, swimming and going to the park. We learn best through song, repetition and practical activities. We love to cook, make crafts and solve puzzles.

The children in Kingfishers are very happy and enthusiastic about school. They love to have fun and play with each other. The children have formed lovely friendships with each other and care deeply about helping one another. We are all very proud of the progress the children have made and have no doubt that they will all continue to flourish.

Our topics for this year are seasonal changes, families and feelings, animals, space and robots. Our focusses for this year are: understanding the world around us, developing our communication skills, increasing our independence skills and basic literacy and numeracy.

We communicate with parents through Dojo by posting on the class story, posting on the children's individual profiles and through the chat feature. We are also happy to call or receive calls for more in-depth conversations. We believe that consistency in home and school is best, so we work collaboratively with parents to create individual plans for each child to reach their potential. We use Bug Club to provide books that parents can read with their children at home that are tailored to their reading stage.
