Welcome to Swans Class – our Informal pathway class for children aged 5 to 7 years. We are a creative and sensory-rich learning environment where every child is supported to explore, express themselves, and have fun together.

In Swan Class, we utilise a main classroom, soft play room, workroom, and dedicated outside area throughout the day for a variety of work and play activities. We follow an informal curriculum that provides a holistic approach, focussing on learning while meeting the children's sensory needs through regulation and building independence. Our class enjoys sensory stories, early Maths, hand class, TacPac, music, swimming, and Rebound Therapy.

Our Class Goals for the Year

• Supporting Self-Regulation: We work closely with pupils to understand their individual sensory needs and provide appropriate input throughout the day. This includes:

  • Offering sensory activities that help pupils feel calm and regulated.

  • Using sensory breaks and resources to support focus and engagement.

  • Creating an environment where pupils can safely explore and manage their sensory needs.

• Developing Understanding of Structure and Routine: We use objects of reference to help pupils understand what is happening now and what will happen next, supporting them to build confidence within routines and transitions.

• Developing Communication Skills: Communication remains a core focus. We encourage pupils to use symbols around the room to request items, activities, and support.

Our main focus throughout every topic is ensuring that all children are fully engaged and have access to a lively, differentiated curriculum tailored to their individual needs.

We regularly communicate with parents using Dojo. We share photos of classroom activities, so parents can see what their child has been enjoying and feel confident trying similar activities at home.
