Swans
Welcome to Swans Class – our Informal pathway class for children aged 5 to 7 years. We are a creative and sensory-rich learning environment where every child is supported to explore, express themselves, and have fun together.

Our Class Goals for the Year in Swan class are:
Supporting Self-Regulation – We will be working closely with pupils to understand their individual sensory needs and to provide appropriate sensory input throughout the day. This includes:
- Offering sensory activities that help pupils feel calm and regulated
- Using sensory breaks and resources to support focus and engagement
- Creating an environment where pupils can safely explore and manage their sensory needs
Developing Understanding of Structure and Routine – Using objects of reference to help pupils understand what is happening and what will happen next. Supporting pupils to build confidence within routines and transitions.
Developing Communication Skills – Communication remains a key focus in our classroom. Encouraging pupils to use symbols around the room to request items, activities, and support.
Swan class particularly enjoy swimming, Jabadao sessions, and local walks, which help them build their gross motor skills and confidence. They are a very creative group and love anything messy, from sensory play to hands-on art activities. These experiences not only support their physical development but also give them opportunities to explore, express themselves, and have fun together.
Our topics this year are All About Me and My School, Winter Wonderland, Transport, Circus, Mini Beasts and Tropical Jungle. Our main focus is ensuring that the children are engaged with activities and have access to a lively and differentiated curriculum.
We regularly communicate with parents using Dojo. We share photos of classroom activities so parents can see what their child has been enjoying and feel confident trying similar activities at home. We also provide Widget symbols to support communication at home, helping families use the same visual strategies their child uses in school.
