Our Team
Class Teacher: Cassie
Teaching Assistants: Nicky, Charlotte and Hope
I'm lucky enough to have three brilliant teaching assistants, and together we work as a team of four to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
My priority for this school year is to foster a love of reading and writing within the children. I approach this aim by linking our learning activities to topics that they are enthused and motivated by – when children are excited about what they're learning, they make the best progress!
I also like to channel our learning into areas that support the children's preparation for adulthood, with particular emphasis on:
- Communication – expressing themselves clearly and confidently
- Maths – developing practical numeracy skills for everyday life
- Understanding the world – making sense of the world around them and their place in it
We use a thematic approach to learning and progress, and we have a lot of fun and flexibility in using this approach.
- Dinosaurs – Exploring the prehistoric world
- Witches, Wizards and Wintery Worlds – Discovering magic and the winter season
- Let's Go to the Circus – Celebrating performance, creativity and excitement
I really love where the children's responses and thinking take our learning. I always allow space for organic movement within my planned curriculum activities – when the children are motivated and enthused in the classroom, this is when the best progress takes place.
In Peacock Class, we do all of our core subject lessons in the morning, which leaves us with lots of time in the afternoons to be more creative:
- Working on art projects – expressing ourselves through creativity
- Exploring music and movement – developing rhythm, coordination and self-expression
- Attention Autism sessions – we complete all four stages, usually with lots of giggles for both children and staff!
This balance between structured learning in the morning and creative exploration in the afternoon keeps our days varied, engaging and fun.
I try to keep close home-school links as I believe this approach results in the best possible outcomes and progress for the children.
Regular Class Dojo posts and individual messages provide an insight into our day and also vital information regarding your little ones. You'll see photos, updates and celebrations of your child's achievements.
Specific interventions upon request – I'm happy to provide additional support tailored to your child's needs, such as:
- Extra reading support
- Maths homework tasks
- Any other areas where you'd like to see additional focus
- Read together every day – share books, stories and anything else with words!
- Talk about what you've read and encourage your child to share their thoughts
- Practise writing in fun ways – lists, letters, stories
- Celebrate all achievements, no matter how small
- Stay in touch through Class Dojo – we love hearing about what's happening at home!
