Experience: I strongly believe that every child must receive the best possible education. I currently volunteer for three local authorities for school admissions and exclusion reviews. I’ve been a school governor for 33 years, firstly as a parent governor for Pensby Infants then as a co-opted governor. I was also a parent governor for Pensby juniors before becoming a co-opted governor. Presently I am chair of governors of Pensby Primary school a position I’ve held for 13 years. I became a governor at Stanley school in June 2019 and was elected chair in September 2019. Interests: I’ve attended many training sessions including school finance, safeguarding and health and safety. I attend most of the committee meetings at the two school’s that I am proud to be elected onto.

I have been a governor for three years and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to get to know the wonderful children and dedicated staff. I believe I can only serve the school community well through seeing it in action as well as attending meetings after school hours.

I was a secondary school teacher for 39 years, with an interest in special needs that started to develop when I spent two terms volunteering in a primary school before going to university. As a result of having a son with special needs, my awareness and knowledge, not only of the special education sector, but also of the multiple, ongoing challenges faced by people with additional needs and their families have increased significantly.

I have been in a governance role for several years at my other school where I am the SEND Governor, Chair of Finance and Vice Chair. It has enabled me to know how much is involved in providing effective governance and I have been on various training courses to help me become an effective governor for Stanley School. I have two children with additional needs one in mainstream education and a child I recently adopted who is at Stanley school. I do have interests in safeguarding with being an adoptive parent and foster carer.
In Stanley School I am the chair of the curriculum committee which I am excited to be taking on as Special Schools education is of keen interest especially in with children’s individual needs how the education is tailored for them.
My other interests is hiking where I regularly take my children to explore the environment in Wales (every weekend!) as well as touring historical places (we have explored over 60 castles in the last 4 years!). I am active in the wargaming hobby and the family own a business selling historical wargames. I volunteer for a regionalized adoption agency carrying out talks to encourage people to consider adoption and also run a year Christmas party for adopted children

I have worked within Special School for the last ten years and could not see myself working in any other career! I enjoy working with the pupils, parents and staff in school and take great pride in being a memebr of the school governing body.
I have a great interest in educational leadership and also sit on the national council of leaders with the National Education Union.
My partner is a member of staff.
