I’ve been a school governor for over 32 years. Vice chair at two schools and chair of the shadow governing body of Pensby Primary, later becoming chair of the actual school. I’ve attended many training courses e.g. Safeguarding, Prevent, finance, challenging the school, admissions, exclusions etc.
This experience enables me to be an effective governor to lead the school’s board.
As well as being the chair of governors at Stanley I have special responsibility for Safeguarding, CLA and child protection, I also serve on the Health & Safety/Premises and the Finance committees.
Within Wirral I’m a member of the Wirral’s school’s forum and the High needs working group.
For over 20 years I’ve volunteered for three local authority’s education admissions and appeals committees chairing for the last 15 years. I also chair pupil exclusion appeals for the three LA’s.
My interests include:
Repairing electronics (my Hons degree is in electronics)
Computers
Photography
Cycling
Walking (especially with my dogs)
Holidays
My four (soon to be five) Grandchildren

I have been in a governance role for several years at my other school where I am the SEND Governor, Chair of Finance and Vice Chair. It has enabled me to know how much is involved in providing effective governance and I have been on various training courses to help me become an effective governor for Stanley School. I have two children with additional needs one in mainstream education and a child I recently adopted who is at Stanley school. I do have interests in safeguarding with being an adoptive parent and foster carer.
In Stanley School I am the chair of the curriculum committee which I am excited to be taking on as Special Schools education is of keen interest especially in with children’s individual needs how the education is tailored for them.
My other interests is hiking where I regularly take my children to explore the environment in Wales (every weekend!) as well as touring historical places (we have explored over 60 castles in the last 4 years!). I am active in the wargaming hobby and the family own a business selling historical wargames. I volunteer for a regionalized adoption agency carrying out talks to encourage people to consider adoption and also run a year Christmas party for adopted children

I have been a member of staff at Stanley School for 5 years. After a brief period as a midday assistant I accepted the role of a teaching assistant, which I enjoy immensely.
Prior to my life at Stanley School I spent 20 happy years as an Intensive Care Nurse working in several large teaching hospitals in London and Essex. I relocated to the Wirral with my husband and two children 6 years ago and my working life took an unexpected twist! Although I remain a qualified nurse, I am fully committed to supporting the learning and development opportunities for all the wonderful children at Stanley.
It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to be a member of the governing body and I hope to bring the same dedication and enthusiasm to this role as I do every day within the school. I am keen to make a positive contribution in which the staff and children are challenged to achieve their best. I am looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the wider issues in education, promoting the school’s ethos within governance and adding value where I can.
