Assessment
Assessment and Progress at Stanley School
At Stanley School, we recognise that our pupils have diverse learning needs and abilities. Assessment is personalised for each child and focusses on celebrating the progress they make from their individual starting points.
How We Measure Progress
Our pupils do not take Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 SATs tests. Instead, we use assessment methods that are meaningful and appropriate for each child, including:
- Ongoing teacher assessment across all areas of learning
- Progress towards outcomes in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- Development in communication and language skills
- Growth in independence and self-care
- Achievement in functional reading, writing and mathematics
- Progress in personal, social and emotional development
Our Pupils' Achievements
Every child at Stanley School makes progress that is significant and valuable. We celebrate when our pupils:
- Learn to communicate their needs and wants
- Develop new skills in reading, writing and mathematics
- Grow in confidence and independence
- Build positive relationships with peers and adults
- Achieve their personal goals and EHCP outcomes
Statutory Assessment Information
As a maintained school, we are required to publish Key Stage 2 assessment data. However, our pupils do not take these national tests due to their complex special educational needs.
Our pupils make excellent progress from their individual starting points across all areas of the curriculum. Progress is carefully tracked, celebrated and shared with families throughout the year.
