PE Premium
At Stanley School, we recognise that physical activity, movement and sport play a vital role in every child's development, health and wellbeing.
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding provided by the government to improve the quality of physical education (PE), physical activity and sport in primary schools. This funding recognises the crucial role that physical development plays in children's overall health, wellbeing and learning.
For pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, physical activity is particularly important for:
- Developing motor skills and physical confidence
- Supporting sensory regulation and wellbeing
- Building social skills and teamwork
- Promoting independence and self-care
- Enhancing overall health and fitness
Our Approach
At Stanley School, we use PE and Sport Premium funding strategically and thoughtfully to:
- Provide specialist support – employing specialist therapists and coaches who understand the needs of pupils with SEND
- Enhance facilities and equipment – investing in specialist equipment, sensory resources and adapted sports equipment that enables all pupils to participate
- Increase participation – ensuring every pupil can access physical activity that is appropriate, enjoyable and beneficial for them
- Develop staff expertise – training staff in approaches like rebound therapy, sensory circuits, and adapted physical activities
- Broaden opportunities – offering a wide range of physical activities including swimming, outdoor learning, dance, and yoga
- Support wellbeing – using physical activity to support emotional regulation, mental health and overall wellbeing
Our Values in Action
Our use of PE and Sport Premium funding reflects our core values:
Caring – We understand that physical activity looks different for every child. We provide personalised approaches that respect each pupil's needs, abilities and preferences.
Learning – We recognise that physical development is fundamental to learning. Movement, sensory experiences and physical activity support cognitive development, communication and engagement.
Inclusive – We ensure that every pupil, regardless of their physical abilities or needs, can access meaningful physical activity and experience the joy of movement.
Ambitious – We have high aspirations for all our pupils' physical development, independence and wellbeing, adapting activities to ensure every child can progress and achieve.
We are committed to using PE and Sport Premium funding effectively and being accountable for the outcomes we achieve. We:
- Carefully assess the physical development needs of all our pupils
- Plan spending based on evidence of what works for pupils with SEND
- Monitor the impact of our provision on pupils' physical development, wellbeing and engagement
- Review and adapt our approach regularly
- Report clearly on how funding has been spent and the difference it has made
