Robins

Welcome to Robins Class – our class of 5–7 year-old children following the Indigo pathway. We are a group of children who are learning, growing and discovering the world around them through play, exploration and meaningful experiences.

Our Team

Class Teachers: Laura and Adam

Support Staff: Sam, Jacob and Beki

We work together as a team to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need throughout the school day.

The majority of our children are new to school, and we are supporting them in their adjustment to this important transition and working hard to build trusting and supportive relationships. These relationships are crucial in facilitating the progress and development of the pupils.

Within our class we place a strong emphasis upon each individual child's communication skills. We use visuals consistently throughout all lessons and within the class environment and this allows the children to communicate their choices and make requests.

Our children require varying levels of regulatory support throughout their school day. Our class staff have a wealth of experience and skills in recognising the regulatory needs of pupils, and we are able to provide support to our pupils proactively.

The children enjoy Attention Autism sessions 3 times a week, and they are making tremendous progress in this area. These sessions are often messy, highly motivating and fun – resulting in lots of enjoyment for the children.

We are an active class and thoroughly enjoy our visits to the playground, the sunken trampoline and the swimming pool. We are enjoying our weekly walks in the local community and the children are learning about the importance of being safe when out and about.

Play is an important part of our provision within Robins Class, and we recognise that our children learn so much from play. We value their creativity and imagination within their play and encourage them to follow their own motivations within our activities. Within any lesson we have construction toys, small world figures, interactive toys and sensory play for the children to access freely.

Our topics this year include 'Seasonal Change and Celebrations', 'Muddy Puddles and New Life' and 'Sail Away'. Whilst we take great pride in planning for our class, we also place the children at the forefront of our curriculum planning. We grasp every opportunity to follow their lead and encourage them to influence our activity planning.

In forming supportive relationships with our children, we know that effective communication with parents is crucial. We go to great lengths to form mutually supportive relationships with the parents of the children in our class through communication and shared goals for the children.

Through our commitment to the use of visuals with children, we ask parents to make requests for resources which we can make for them to use at home. This has significant benefits for the family and the child.

The children in our class respond well to our understanding of them and also our determination to celebrate and encourage them as individuals. We wish to create an environment where they thrive through support, dedication and placing them at the heart of all we do.
