Welcome to Squirrels Class – Welcome to our wonderful class! We are a group of informal learners aged between 5 and 8 years old. Every day is filled with opportunities to explore, discover, communicate and have fun together.

We work together as a team to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need throughout the school day.

Our priority during these important first years of school is building strong, trusting relationships. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, understood, valued and connected to the adults and children around them. We take time to get to know each child as an individual, celebrating their interests, strengths and personalities. 

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. We provide lots of opportunities for children to express themselves, make choices, share their likes and dislikes and develop their own voice. We also place a strong emphasis on sensory regulation and wellbeing, helping each child to understand and manage their sensory needs so that they are ready and able to learn.

Learning in our class is often hands-on, playful and wonderfully messy! We love getting stuck into sensory and creative experiences where the children can explore different materials, textures, sounds and smells. We follow children's interests and use play as a powerful way to develop communication, cognition, physical skills and social interaction.

We also place a strong emphasis on developing independence. Whether it is making a choice, helping to tidy up, feeding ourselves, putting on our coats or taking part in familiar routines, we celebrate every step towards becoming more independent.

We are a very active class and love being physical! We enjoy exploring our outdoor spaces and making the most of playtimes. Swimming is a particular favourite, giving us opportunities to develop physical skills, confidence, communication and independence while having lots of fun.

Above all, our classroom is a place where children are encouraged to be themselves, have fun, build relationships and learn at their own pace.

We are incredibly lucky to have a team of passionate, engaging and dedicated staff who know our children well and are committed to helping every child reach their potential. We work together to create a nurturing environment where every achievement, no matter how big or small, is celebrated.
