Dragonflies
Welcome to Dragonflies Class! We are an Indigo pathway class with eight wonderful children between the ages of 6 and 8. We are focused on developing skills for life and building confidence both in school and out in the community.
Our Team
Class Teacher: Olivia
Support Staff: Cathy, Angela and Kim
We work together as a team of four to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need throughout the school day.
This school year, we have created specific goals for each of our children to enable them to get the best from their school career and prepare them for later life. As a whole class focus, we will be concentrating on managing and understanding emotions, modelling expected behaviours, independent living skills, and being out in the community.
In Dragonflies class we really enjoy learning out in the community and going out on the bus, where we get to see lots of new and exciting things. When we are learning in our classroom, we learn best by engaging with sensory, creative and practical activities. We really expand our concentration through our daily Attention Autism bucket therapy lessons.
Our topics this year are: 'We are Family', 'Monster Mash', 'Baby, You're a Firework', 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree', 'All You Need is Love', 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland', 'Build Me Up Buttercup', 'Bear Necessities', 'Rocket Man', 'Sparks Fly' and 'Here Comes the Sun/Nothing Beats a Jet 2 Holiday'.
In each of these topics we will be focusing on listening and attention, communicating wants and needs, following instructions with increased independence, mark making, recognising numbers, sounds and words, and making purposeful movements.
We aim to work closely with our parents, keeping an open line of communication through our class Dojo page with daily updates and messages, and through phone calls when needed. We will regularly send out workshops and other useful information to help consolidate the support we can offer our children.
