Badgers
Welcome to Badgers Class – our Indigo pathway class of children aged 9-11. We are focused on preparing for secondary school and developing the skills our children need for their future beyond primary school.
Our Team
Class Teacher: Heather
Support Staff: Sue, Helen and Hayley
We work together as a team to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement they need throughout the school day.
In Badgers class, we are preparing to move to secondary school. We focus on skills that support the children to get ready for the future beyond their life in primary school. Within our classroom, we prioritise relationships with the children and meet needs to ensure they are regulated and ready to learn.
Badgers Class loves learning about the world around them and taking every opportunity to visit the community to observe, explore and use skills they have learnt during their time in school. The children in Badgers all look forward to phonics lessons and have lots of fun learning new letter sounds and spelling words together, using a multisensory approach.
We also have Forest School, maths, phonics, reading, fine motor/writing, PE (including swimming), cooking and communication sessions throughout the week.
Our topics this year are: Growing Food, People in the Community, Growing and Changing, Festivals and Celebrations, Water and Sun Safety and Transitions. These topics help the children develop practical skills and an understanding of the world around them as they prepare for their next steps.
Parents in Badgers love to share all the exciting things they do at the weekends and holidays. We often have conversations about new places and activities that the children have enjoyed that other children in the class may like.
The children particularly enjoy:
- Baking and cooking – this is a lovely low-cost activity that provides opportunities to develop lots of physical skills as well as following instructions. It may also spark an interest in new foods.
- Colouring
- Sensory play – kinetic sand, slime, playdough and gloop (lots of these can be made with household ingredients)
- Puzzles
- Small world play and building using duplo blocks
- Parks, beach, forests
We regularly communicate with parents through Dojo and share photos of classroom activities, so parents can see what their child has been enjoying and feel confident trying similar activities at home.
