If you're concerned about an incident at school:
We will always inform you on the same day if:
- Your child has been distressed
- Physical intervention has been used
- Your child or another pupil has been hurt
- There has been any significant incident
We will:
- Explain what happened
- Tell you how we responded
- Discuss what we're doing to prevent it happening again
- Answer your questions
- Review and update support plans if needed
Useful Information for Families
Understanding behaviour in children with complex needs:
Remember:
- Behaviour is communication – especially for non-verbal children
- Consistency helps children feel safe
- Small steps are still progress
- What works one day may not work the next – that is okay

- Keep daily routines consistent where possible
Meet sensory needs:
- Provide sensory activities your child enjoys
- Create a calm space at home
- Watch for signs of sensory overload
Support communication:
- Use your child's preferred communication methods
- Give time to process and respond
- Celebrate all communication attempts
Look after yourself:
- Ask for help when you need it
